Its most famous graduate remains Copernicus

Too bad Archie couldn't climb his statue and put the t-shirt on him!

The next day (Sunday) we began an idyllic walk along the Vistula River

Our destination was Schindler's Factory, a Polish businessman who ultimately saved the lives of 1200 Jews

Along the way, we came upon one of the most beautiful Churches of them all: Church of St. Michael the Archangel and St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr and Pauline Fathers Monastery, Skałka,

We must explore it, inside and out.  After all, it is also one of the most famous Polish sanctuaries.

The crypt underneath the church serves as a "national Panthéon", a burial place for some of the most distinguished Poles from many walks of life, particularly those who lived in Kraków.

In fact, they were actually nominated for the honor of being buried here

We cross over the Vistula on The Lover's Bridge

We are nearing our destination: The Emalia Plant, run by Oskar Schindler from 1939-1944 was made into a Museum.  The story is known to many, thanks to Steven Spielberg's movie, Schindler's List.

The entire Plac Bohaterow Getta square, Ghetto Heroes Square in English, has become a monument commemorating the Jewish ghetto and the Krakow Jews. Oversized bronze chairs stand as memorials to the victims.

This Pharmacy, on one corner of the Square, was run by a Pole during the World War II and provided a cover for the Polish resistance that tried to help Jews in ghetto. It is now a tiny Holocaust Museum

From the 14th century to the early 19th century, Kazimierz was an independent town, a royal city of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom, and a place of coexistence and interpenetration of Christian and Jewish cultures

Its Jewish inhabitants were forcibly relocated in 1941 by the German occupying forces.

Today Kazimierz is one of the major tourist attractions of Krakow and an important center of cultural life of the city.

As always, we enjoy wandering and exploring the historic streets
