Cartegena and Granada

Archie enjoys breakfast as we pull into Cartegena,

a City surrounded by a 400 year old wall and filled with churches, fortresses, and colonial mansions

The historic Old Town, with its modernist buildings

Love those tapas and that Sangria!

Exquisite tile work is everywhere

Roman Theater of Carthago Nova,  uncovered while clearing ground for an apartment complex

Naturally construction was stopped, and performances now are held, as in the days of yore (with perfect acoustics)

Where's Joan???

A view from the stage

When in Spain do as they do...wine and dessert

My favorite picture, bar none!

We pass through olive trees...

...and solar powered wind mills.  Spain leads the world in both

Even in early July, one sees snow on the mountain top on the way to the 14th c. Palace and fortress of the Moorish Monarchs of Granada known as........................

........Alhamabra, considered by some to be the 8th wonder of the world, with its detailed mosaics, prism-style cupolas, and stone latticework.

A breath taking example of Moorish architecture, surrounded by walls, towers outside ...

....and  palaces, military buildings, a fortress, gardens, and administrative center inside

From top to bottom, there's something to admire and photograph

The ceilings Joan is shooting!  Can you imagine the stiff necks of those who created them???

A fabulous amphitheater on the grounds where world class entertainment performs,

and world class tourists frequent...
