THE MORNING AFTER

The morning after, we fulfilled our special niche and returned to Brittlebank Park as:

THE CLEAN - UP TEAM

Archie, Mimi, Eileen, (Barbara Allen), Gail

For a Dragon Boat Team

To do what it ought-er

It has to work together

On land as well as on water

The Hat Dragons

Are just such a Team.

A review of what we did

Shows just what I mean:

We began our planning,

And eating too,

At a Kick off Brunch in March,

Where we decided what to do

Some would cook.

Some would create.

Some worked together.

Some worked at their own rate.

All gave it their best,

The ol' college try.

When things didn't sell,

We were the ones who'd buy

Eventually our donations

Totaled 4,000 dollars--

An amount to be proud of,

A reason to holler

We practiced a bit,

As much as we could.

We had to face facts:

The spring weather wasn't good

The Day finally came:

Not too cold or too hot.

Where The Hat Dragons could show

Exactly what we got:

We got out of the starting gate

For the very first Race.

But one look at Drummer extraordinaire Vicki,

Showed something was out of place

It wasn't something;

It was actually some-one

Without a steersperson,

No Race could be won

But we kept our cool

And so did he,

And off we paddled

To our first leg of victory

Even our Second Race

Tested our mettle and heart;

This time it was the Tower

That bungled our start

But we had a plan!

We wouldn't be deterred!

When they announced the metals,

"Silver" is what we heard

We exceed all expectations

'Cause we knew how to compete:

All we had to remember was

"Eyes, Lungs, and Feet!'

The best thing about The Hat Dragons is we BONDED as a Team...and that makes us REAL winners!
