REFLECTING ON THE EXPERIENCE

Although The Hat Ladies have been promenading for the past 14 years, our foray into Marion Square during The Farmer's Market was a first.  The primary reason for the change was the realization we need to bring our Easter finery and good wishes to where the folks are, rather than expect them to interrupt their day and come down to where we were (on Meeting between Broad and White Point Gardens).

As with any "first," there are lessons to be learned and adjustments to be made.  The Hat Ladies made some excellent suggestions for next year's Signature Event; virtually all of them will be instituted.  The comment that best sums up this year's experience was:

"We got to get dressed up, be admired, shop, and eat!  What could be better than that!"

Well, the only thing "better than that" was learning how strongly our tradition has been embraced by the community.  When Easter activities are listed, "The Hat Ladies Easter Promenade" is expected to be among them.  May we always be worthy of this recognition and continue to represent the grace and elegance and traditions synonymous with Charleston.
